Bodhisattva Vows
with Acharya Allyn Lyon Sun November 11th: 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM (* $20.00 Material Fee included in each price.)In Room(s): Main Shrine Room Having taken the Refuge Vow, the Bodhisattva Vow is a further commitment to work wholeheartedly for the benefit of others. The basis of this vow is the aspiration to develop friendliness, compassion, and genuine insight through the practice of the six paramitas and to undertake the view and practice of the mahayana. Only those who have taken the Bodhisattva Vow previously may wittness those taking the Bodhisattva Vow for the first time. However, family and friends warmly invited to witness the Refuge Vow which follows and to stay for the reception.
Preparations For the Bodhisattva Vow (Contact your meditation instructor for guidance):
- Taking of the Refuge Vow (preferably at least six months prior) Note: It is not possible to take both vows at the same time.
- A written recommendation from your Meditation Instructor is required - Must submitted by Oct. 22. The application/recomendation forms can be obtained from your Meditation Instructor or from the Center Office Manager
- “Mahayana & the Bodhisattva Path” weekend, offered Nov. 9-11
- Reading: The Heart of the Buddha and/or The Bodhisattva Vow Sourcebook available through the Shambhala Center
Registration Deadline: October 22
Fees: $17 for the practice liturgy, plus a teachers gift by to offered to the preceptor (Talk to your Meditation Instructor for guidance)
